How to get to Granada

Granada has a small airport ("Federico García Lorca Granada-Jaén Airport") well connected to Madrid and Barcelona by several daily flights. Flying from Palma de Mallorca is also possible several days per week.

From Madrid, Granada can also be easily reached by bus or train (around 5 hours travelling time). Low-cost flights to neighbour airport in Málaga (largest international airport in Spain) can also be found. The best way to get to Granada from Málaga is by bus (about one hour and a half travelling time).

Flying direct to Granada airport

There are several direct flights to Granada from different locations and companies:

Getting to Granada from Granada Airport

Granada airport is 17km from the city centre. Granada airport terminal is small and taxis and bus stops as well as rent car points can be easily reached by following the signals in the airport.

1. By taxi:

The airport is served by taxis from neighbouring towns, so for journeys to Granada intercity fares will apply. There is no special supplement for arriving to or leaving the airport. Make sure that the taxi driver has started up the taximeter at the start of the journey (minimum fare). Users are advised to request a receipt for any complaint or claim.

Taxi stop is located in front of the terminal building entrance. Taxi fares from the airport to the city centre are around 30-35 € and are usually available at any time.

2. By bus:

The Granada-Airport bus line (blue coach different from the red urban buses) connects with the city centre with stops in strategic places like Avenida de Andalucía, the bus station and Gran Vía de Colón. The full journey lasts approximately 40 minutes and the fare is 3€. The closest bus stop to the Granada Center Hotel is the 4th stop starting from the airport, called “Jardines del Triunfo”. Flying to Madrid

(Madrid Barajas Airport)

Barajas Airport is the most important international airport of Spain. It has numerous international flight connections, as well as connections with Granada. It is a big airport and it is highly recommended to allow enough time for transfers. If you do not take a flight transfer to Granada from Madrid, there are several alternatives:

a) By bus: Getting to Granada from Madrid airport

There are two direct buses from Madrid airport to the Granada Bus Station, at 1:30 am (Mo-Sat) and at 6:30 am (Mo-Sun).

Price of the regular ticket: Around 20 €.
Duration: Around 5:30 h (500 km).

You can purchase your tickets directly at the ticket machine within the airport itself, located in Terminal 4 first floor, in the arrivals lounge.

b) By regular bus: Getting to Granada from Madrid

There are many direct buses daily from Madrid Bus Station (Estación del Sur) to the Bus Station of Granada. Available buses can be found from 1:30 am to 8:30 pm.

Price of the regular ticket: About 17 € (Supra service about 34 €).
Duration: Around 5 h (450 km).

Getting to Madrid bus station (Estación del Sur) from Madrid airport:

By taxi: Around 40 €.

By metro: Around 3 €. Line 8 and to the 'Nuevos Ministerios' stop and then Line 6 to the 'Méndez Álvaro' stop. It takes around 1 hour to get to The Estación del Sur by metro.

c) By car: Getting to Granada from Madrid

There are plenty of rent a car companies operation at the Madrid airport area. Some of them are located inside the airport. The companies operating inside the Madrid airport can be find in the following link:

Looking for:

Departure: 'Madrid. Madrid Airport'
Destination: 'Granada. Avenida de la Constitucion'
The trip is about 450 km and takes around 4:15 h.

Madrid is connected to Granada via the A-4 motorway (signs for Córdoba). After about 285 km, at Bailén village, you have to take the A-44 motorway (signs for Granada).

d) By train

There are only two daily trains from Madrid to Granada, at 9:05 and 17:05.

Duration: 4:30 h

Getting to Madrid train station (Estación de Atocha) from Madrid airport:

By taxi: Around 40 €

By metro (around 3 €). Line 8 until 'Colombia' stop, then Line 9 until 'Plaza de Castilla' stop, and then Line 1 until 'Atocha Renfe' stop. The metro trip takes around 1 hour.

Granada Train Station: The distance from the Granada Train Station to the venue of the Conference and the Hotel Center is ~1km, so you can go on foot (10min.) or by taxi.

Getting to Granada from Málaga airport

Here you can find a summary of the options. They should be updated but please do verify the timetables for your specific day and time of travel (probably the link above is quite up-to-date, too).

a) By bus: From Malaga airport to Granada bus station

There are three daily direct buses from Málaga airport to Granada bus station.

Málaga airport departures (bus stop just in from of the Terminal 3): 10:30h (supra), 11:30 h; 18:30 h.

Duration: 2:30 h
Price: Around 10 € (one way ticket)

b) By bus: From Malaga bus station to Granada bus station

If you arrive at another time, it is faster (but less convenient if you have luggage) to catch a bus from Málaga airport to Málaga bus station and then catch a bus to Granada. There are buses to Málaga bus station every 30 minutes and buses to Granada every hour.

Getting to Malaga bus station from Malaga airport:

By taxi: Around 20 €

By bus:

  • Line A (Shuttle bus)
    Málaga airport departures (bus stop just in front of the Terminal 3): Every 60 minutes, from 7:00 to 24:00
    Duration: 20 minutes
    Price: 2 € (one way ticket). You can pay directly to the bus driver.
  • Line 19:
    Málaga airport departures (bus stop just in front of the Terminal 3): Every 40 minutes, from 7:00 to 24:00
    Duration: 30 minutes
    Price: 2 € (one way ticket). You can pay directly to the bus driver

By train: Line C1

Málaga airport departures (train stop just in front of the Terminal 3): Every 30 minutes, from 6:54 to 23:54.
Price: Around 1.40 € (one way ticket).

Getting to Granada bus station from Málaga bus station:

There is a bus every hour from the Malaga bus station to the Granada bus station, from 7:00 until 21:30.
Price: Around 10 €.
Duration: Around 1:45 h (128 kms).

Note that it is difficult to get to Granada after 21:30.

c) By car: From Málaga airport to Granada

There are plenty of car rental companies operating at the Malaga airport area. Some are located inside the airport, but most of them have their offices outside the airport, although they can pick you up at the airport terminal. The companies operating inside the Malaga airport are:



d) By taxi: Getting to Granada from Málaga airport

Another option to get to Granada is clubbing together with 2 or 3 people and get a taxi. A taxi from Málaga costs about 150 € during the weekdays and about 174 € on weekends and takes around one and a half hours. You can also book the service in advance with specialized companies.A fixed price for taxi in advance is highly recommended.
